This is how Enable teamed up with us to make a prosthetic hand for Elias.

Enable is an organization dedicated helping people in Bolivia in need of prosthetics, with a team of doctors, psychologist and engineers. On February 4th, the Enable team got together with Elias and his family to learn more about his story.

Elias, is 12 years old. In 2021 he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma cancer and unfortunately lost his hand. Him and his family are from Oruro, Bolivia and unfortunately do not count with the economic resources to get Elias the hand he is in need of so Smiling Hearts and Enable Bolivia joined to help him get a 3D printed prosthesis.

From February 23rd until March 3rd, Elias went through thorough physiotherapy and psychological evaluations with the Enable Bolivia team.

On March 10th he got measured to for his new prosthetic hand and with that information the team got an invoice ready to include in the proposal they sent to Smiling Hearts and begin the fundraising.

On May 12th Smiling Hearts gather the funds and was able to send the money to Enable Bolivia to begin with the 3D printing of the first stage of the prosthetic hand.

On June 28th the ensemble of the prosthetics was made and was waiting for Elias to travel back to La Paz city in order to have the first fitting of his new hand.

At the moment the prosthetic is in re adjustment and we are waiting for final news of the final prosthetic in behalf of Enable Bolivia.
